Paris Region strives to be an attractive region with an international ambition: it has therefore made modern language teaching a priority and wants to help each young person to find the schools with the language instruction that is best suited for them.
Public
The Guide to International Education in Paris Region is aimed at all parents who are planning to settle and/or enrol their child or children in a school located in Paris Region.
Objective
This guide was developed to make the language teaching options within the educational system more accessible, and to enable parents to contact the schools with training courses that best meet their children’s needs in order to get further information. The guide therefore allows you to:
• Find nursery schools, primary schools, lower- and upper-secondary schools that offer the language curriculum you want for your children (generally aged 2-18, according to the situation). For each school, the guide provides a fact sheet that allows you to establish initial contact. The information provided does not guarantee the child’s enrolment to the chosen school in any way.
• Gain insight on the courses available within the French educational system, notably for languages: by refining their search based on their children’s needs, the users will have access to an educational offer meeting their specific requirements.
The primary language used in most of the schools featured in this guide is French. Parents can opt for a state school or state-licensed private school where French is the main teaching language, but where intensive education is also provided in another language (international sections, binational sections). They can also opt for the European School in Courbevoie where the main teaching language is English (in the English section) or for some Paris Region privately-funded schools that are under no agreement with the Ministry of National Education but are accredited by international organisations using internationally-agreed standards and recognized by several ministries, departments of education and universities around the world (CIS, COBIS, BSO). These independent private schools are called “hors contrat” and may provide most of their classes in another language than French and train their pupils for international or Anglophone certifications (IB, A-Level). To find a school that best suits their wishes, the users are also encouraged to contact the Embassy or the Cultural Institute of the country concerned.
Partnerships
Our partnership with the Ministry of National Education through the three education authorities of the Region (Créteil, Paris, Versailles) ensures the reliability and accuracy of the information provided for state schools and state-licensed private schools.
Contact
Based on the regional plan “Reinforcing International Attractiveness in Paris Region”, a single- access point has been created to simplify procedures for arriving families.
